Spring Chicks...Is it too early??

Applique Chicks

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
It's WIP Wednesday!

I decided to applique some chicks with my machine. My Pfaff Creative Performance is only a little over a year old, and I still have so much to learn about it. In the past few months, thanks to my sister's interest in purchasing some appliques and embroideries online to use on my machine (see her creativity at: SewCraftyChick.blogspot.com), I followed their instructions and taught myself how to do applique. While it's a bit tedious and time intensive (changing threads frequently for color changes, adding fabric bits for parts, snipping fabric to stitch lines), I really like doing it. The appliques turn out cute, and, one part I really like, I get to use bits of fabric lying around--got plenty of that! So I went a bit "chick wild":

I also made some lavender scones (homemade!)  and picked some daffodils from the yard. The weather's getting spring-y!
Crocuses in the yard are blooming, too!

  2. I just love applique and use up all my bits and pieces. Did you use a Satin Stitch when you appliqued? Your chicks are awesome

    1. Hi Dawn, thanks for stopping by my blog & checking out my applique chicks. I did use a satin stitch (zigzag) that was programmed with the applique I purchased, which makes it really easy. The whole process took place in the embroidery hoop, step by step. I don't know if you have this type of machine, but doing it "by hand" on the machine just would require more precision as we guide it. The program even tacks down each piece of the applique before doing the satin stitch.

  3. What fun chickens. Go on at this rate and you'll have a whole hen-house by Easter.

  10. So jealous of your flowers! It will be at least a month before we see anything here in WI! Lavendar scones just sound so lovely! I have had my embroidery machine about a year and 1/2, totally know how you feel with learning it! The chicks are stinkin' adorable!

    1. Hi Kelly, it's so nice to hear from you. I paid for unlimited classes at my local shop, though I didn't buy the machine there (bought it 2 hours away, where I can take the classes for free). This machine is taking me into a new era of sewing!! The instructor, who is about 70 yrs old, said she was so happy to work with me cuz I actually want to learn how to use all the features of the machine, instead of just the basic stuff. I hope you do, too! Sew on!

  11. Which came first...Chick wild, or wild chick? Sounds a bit like the chicken/egg dilemma, if you ask me! Ha! I can see why you went a bit wild. They are charming! Enjoy your machine. :)
